Do It Anyway

Okay, so I have this almost religious affinity for three-word mantras. I swear, any sentiment or saying worth thinking or remembering is (or should be) only three words long.

Yes, you can. You got this. Keep it simple. Just be you. It’ll be okay. Don’t wuss out. You do you. Believe in yourself. Think it through. Find a way. (I could go for a long time…) (Seriously, I have stacks of these – apparently my brain can only remember three words at a time.)

One of these is: do it anyway.

I particularly like this one because it works in more than one context, be that a physical or mental block. Can’t be bothered to get up and do the work that needs to be done? Do it anyway. Not sure you know how to do something right or well? Do it anyway. Don’t think you should do something because of how people might react or what someone might say? Do it anyway.

This is one I should remind myself of more often, particularly these days. It’s so easy to talk ourselves out of something because we’re tired or unsure or just plain scared.

Do it anyway. No excuses. No reasoning. Just do it. (Another great three-word choice – and it proves my point if even Nike thought so.)

If you’re in a situation where you need this saying, there are really only two outcomes anyway: don’t do whatever it is, and nothing changes (and perhaps still needs doing later) – or do it anyway and find out. Maybe you’ll regret it, but unlikely – don’t they always say you regret the things you don’t do more than the things you do? Isn’t the curiosity of what might happen just eating away at you? After all, you know the outcome of what will happen if you don’t do anything – nothing. And that’s boring as heck.

So do it. Even if you don’t feel like it, even if you’re nervous.

Do it anyway.
