2020, Week Twelve Compendium

We’re living in history right now. People are going to be talking about this for years to come. I expect our grandchildren will ask us what it was like to live through.

The world is a scary place. There’s a lot of unknowns. A lot of sadness. Everything is changing, and I for one am feeling a great sense of grief for how life is supposed to be and for all the plans that are slowly being cancelled. I said, in a low moment the other day, that it feels like all the good stuff, the stuff we live for, has been taken away, so now what’s the point? But we have to remember this is temporary. We will come out of the other side. And we will appreciate all the little everyday parts of life so much when we finally get them back.

Blog Post I’m Loving – Like many, I’ve begun working completely from home this week. For years I used to spend my Monday to Friday working from home, but getting back into that habit has been stranger than I thought. This post from The Small Things has some tips I love: http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2020/03/a-few-tips-for-working-from-home/?utm_source=bloglovin.com&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FGqCLV+%28The+Small+Things+Blog%29

Hack I’m Loving – Eating clementines could give you a buzz (apparently a study found that even the smell made participants ridiculously happy – who knew?!)

Fact I’m Loving – Blind people smile, even though they’ve never seen anyone else smile.

Life is busy. I don’t know, that’s not a real excuse.

Words of (sort of) Wisdom
Everything we experience in life is filtered through our perspective. When we’re down, feeling like there’s no light or happy side of a situation, I know it can be so hard to see it any other way than sucky. It feels like there isn’t any other perspective – or, even if we do force ourselves to come up with a positive mindset, it doesn’t last very long before the darkness takes over again, and trying to “be positive” seems stupid.

Personally, I think “be positive” is useless advice. But I do understand (and have experienced) the role perspective plays in everything. If you’re really down, trying to force that perspective change can seem impossible, and it’ll just add even more stress and hopelessness to how you’re feeling. Instead, accept you feel terrible. Sit in it. But tell yourself you’re not going to to stay there forever. Everything is temporary. Feel everything you feel without feeling bad or guilty about it. But then do me a favour. Close your eyes and list five things you’re grateful for. Even if it’s just the peace you feel from closing your eyes. Tell yourself this current situation isn’t forever, and you have the strength to get through it, and you’ll come out even stronger. I truly like to believe everything happens for a reason – maybe you’re being steered to something greater or being moulded into someone stronger. Then do something to take your mind off how you’re feeling – like cooking or watching TV. If you find your mind wandering to that dark place, remind yourself you can handle this moment (even if you don’t know how). The world is with you. Take one minute at a time. You’ve got this.
